Update: Southbound Interstate 25 and the light rail are reopened as of around 8 p.m. July 10.
A truck fire on southbound Interstate 25 south of East Arapahoe Road has closed down that direction of the highway and the light rail in the area, according to South Metro Fire Rescue. An extended closure is expected.
The fire department at about 5:20 p.m. July 10 on Twitter said a semi-truck fire is expected to cause significant travel delays. When the truck came to a quick stop, a bale of hay touched its exhaust pipe and started a fast-spreading fire, the department said on Twitter.
The fire was under control as of just before 6 p.m., and no injuries were reported, the department said on Twitter. Northbound I-25 is open.
About 200 bales of hay were burning on the trailer and highway, and firefighters trucked in water from hydrants on East Dry Creek Road, the department said on Twitter.
As of about 6:20 p.m., the Colorado Department of Transportation was on scene assisting firefighters by pulling apart the hay, making it easier to extinguish. Fire crews were still working to douse the fire.
At about 8:15 p.m., all lanes of southbound I-25 were open, and light rail was being reopened at about 6:30 p.m., according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and South Metro Fire on Twitter.
