Winter has many appealing facets besides that beautiful mountain snow — arts events are top of the list for me and I’m looking forward to revisiting Monet’s art at the Denver Art Museum, plus we’re scheduling for early-winter performances in the metro area. Brief listing follows …

 Town Hall Arts Center in Littleton opens “Disenchanted” on Jan. 10 — a new musical with other stories about princesses and not for kids. Nick Sugar directs and rehearsals are underway — named “Best of the Year” in NYC … and they lived happily ever after — well, not exactly! This piece, by Dennis C. Glacino, had its first workshop in NYC in 2009. Following that: “Almost Heaven,” the John Denver story April 3-May 3 … 2450 W. Main St., 303-794-2787, townhallartscenter.org.

 Lone Tree Arts Center will host “International Guitar Night” on Feb. 4 featuring Mike Dawes, Cenk Erdodan, Olli Soikkeli, Jim Kimo West. Lonetreeartscenter.org, 10075 Commons St., Lone Tree. 720-509-1000. This group performs internationally …

 Curious Theatre, 1000 Acoma St., Denver, opens “The Secretary” by Kyle John Schmidt on Jan. 11 and runs until Feb. 15. The director is Christy Montour-Larson. Described as “a comedy about guns with an all-female cast.” 720-258-4212, curioustheatre.org.

 Arvada Center, 6900 Wadsworth Blvd., will present “Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express” (adapted by Ken Ludwig) Jan. 31-May 17 and “Something Rotten,” a new musical by Karey Kirkpatrick, opening April 10. 720-898-7200, arvadacenter.org.

 PACE Center in Parker will produce “Roald Dahl’s Matilda” Jan. 17-Feb. 9, based on the popular children’s book, followed on Feb. 21 by “Friday Night Jazz” with the Colorado Jazz Contemporary Orchestra, performing music by Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderly. 303-805-6800, parkerarts.org.

 Highlands Ranch-based Performance Now Theatre Company will open “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to The Forum” on Jan. 10 at Lakewood Cultural Center, 470 S. Allison St., Lakewood, running to Jan. 26. 303-918-1500. Next: “The Drowsy Chaperone” in March …

 Miners Alley Playhouse, 224 Washington Ave., in Golden does not have a new listing, but check later. It’s a favorite small theatre for us, with fine productions. 303-935-3044, minersalley.com.

 Benchmark Theatre, 1560 Teller St., at Colfax, Lakewood lists “Airness” by Chelsea Marcantel on Feb. 8-29. Benchmarktheatre.com.
