Douglas County’s assessor Lisa Frizell is leading the primary race to move forward as the Republican candidate for Colorado’s House District 45.

According to the early unofficial results, Frizell is leading with 56.7% of the votes. Challenger Bill Jack, a Castle Rock resident and co-founder of Worldview Academy, a Christian leadership training program for youth, had 43.29% of the early vote tally.

District 45 covers Castle Rock and a large portion of the surrounding area.

Frizell has focused on fiscal responsibility throughout her campaign, supporting protections for Colorado’s Taxpayer Bill of Rights and updating the tax code. She also has pledged to preserve gun rights, local control and choice in education.

Frizell would be a first-time state representative after spending the past eight years as the Douglas County assessor. She previously worked in the county assessor’s office for almost three decades.

Frizell will face Democratic candidate Ruby Martinez for the seat in the November general election. 

Both Frizell and Martinez would be new to the seat, which was vacated by Rep. Patrick Neville, who was term-limited after serving in the role since 2015.
