Castle Rock celebrates holidays with Starlighting

Posted

Crowds braved chilly temperatures to watch the Town of Castle Rock light up the star that sits atop The Rock on Nov. 23. People handed out free hot chocolate and cider for the Starlighting ceremony as food trucks dished up hot meals to keep people warm.

The “Lighting of the Star” event dates back to 1936, according to the town's website, and marks the beginning of the holiday season. This year's celebration included a festival with live music, vendors and ice skating to keep people entertained before the finale — a fireworks show and the lighting of the star. Spectators cheered when the star lit up and fireworks illuminated Rock Park.
