Paraglider injured in Castle Rock

A paraglider was injured when he crashed near Castle Rock Middle School shortly before 1:30 p.m. today.

The man, who has not been identified, sustained multiple fractures and was found unconscious near the school at 2575 Meadows Blvd., a town spokeswoman said. He was airlifted to a local hospital.

The middle's school's principal, Lee-Ann Hayen, sent a letter to the school community this afternoon.

"Although our students were not directly involved, several witnessed the accident," she wrote. "I reached out to our mental health team to request extra support. They are available for students and teachers today and tomorrow at the school. If your student meets with our school and district mental health team and needs further assistance, we will contact you as soon as possible."

Police are investigating the incident, but believe he may have been caught in a down-draft.

No further information is available, but this story will be updated as more details are released.
