I was raised in Toledo, Ohio. I was married there in 1984 and moved to Pagosa Springs. Then I moved to Colorado Springs, then moved to Woodland Park and landed in Castle Rock in 1991. We have four kids ages 25 to 32. It’s lots of work but the joy is AWESOME. They attended Little Bears, South Elementary, Castle Rock Middle School and Douglas County High School. I worked at South Elementary for nine years and always told the kids I was going to follow them to the high school. They yelled, “No.” After leaving the school district I went to work at the Castle Rock Community Recreation Center (CRCRC).
Loving life in Castle Rock
Castle Rock was such a great place for our kids and our family — schools, swim lessons, sports and fun in our neighborhood. Plus the trails, outdoor pools, our church family and on and on.
Why I love my job at CRCRC
The thing I bring to my job is a love of people. I like to welcome new folks and encourage all our customers. We have some of the most amazing people who are fighting illness, fighting age, fighting accidents and never giving up. So proud of the stick-to-it-ness!!
My favorite memories are celebrating happy times like babies, weddings, new jobs, retirements, weight loss etc. Some memories are of support for the tough times — job loss, family loss, illness and the like. Really, we are the Community Recreation Center. We focus on Community! Also, when my family came here there were two people working at the front desk, Cathy Sukta and Phil Ferguson. They were amazing, friendly, knew us after one week. I strive to be like them. We can make the CRCRC like your family.
My life advice
My advice to others and myself is be positive, be happy and be nice. A very smart boss always said, “You don’t know what is going on in their life — treat them the way you want to be treated.” Good advice.
