Let's get serious - do we really want our Town Council to be "broken" before we "fix" it?
I would suggest six recalls, initiatives and referenda over the last five years proves something is not right...
And it's not OK that 4 out of 10 residents think our local government "doesn't listen to them" or "seek their involvement" (according the town's 2017 resident survey).
The fact is our neighbors are disappointed, have very valid concerns about traffic, growth and development, and deserve to have the very best government we can possibly provide.
Why in the world would we want to wait for Town Council to be "broken" before we start fixing what is clearly no longer working or appropriate?
We've outgrown the appointed mayor system of government and there is absolutely no reason in the world why residents shouldn't be able to elect their own mayor.
It's called democracy. As Americans, we know how to do it - it's a simple concept - and it's definitely not "unknown". It's time to give our neighbors the same fundamental freedom that millions of other Americans have: the right to elect the leaders of their town. It's time to elect our mayor.
Councilmember, District 6
