If I went up to any Castle Rock resident on the street and asked if they knew who the current mayor is, there's an almost certainty that they would not know. If I then told them the name of our mayor, I'm fairly certain that they would not know who she is. If I explain who she is and the district she was elected to represent, I'm also fairly certain that they still wouldn't know a single position she has on any issue or her vision for Castle Rock for the next two years.
We need a publicly elected mayor so that residents can learn about the issues facing the entire town, not just one district. We need healthy public discourse. We need a leader who can be held accountable by the entire town, not just by the voters of one district. And above all we need a system of checks and balances that gives all the people a say in the town's future.
