Free Prediabetes & Diabetes Self-Management Classes in Elizabeth

Posted by

Peak Vista is working to help reduce the complications associated with diabetes in Elizabeth and surrounding communities. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 10 percent of the U.S. population is estimated to have diagnosed or undiagnosed diabetes. Furthermore, almost 27 percent of Americans age 65 and older have diabetes. Peak Vista has partnered with the Colorado Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, Telligen, to provide the community with diabetes self-management education (DSME) workshops. The workshops are offered at no cost by trained leaders and will cover topics such as medication, reading labels, managing stress, and monitoring blood sugar levels. Participants will be able to share stories with others in the community affected by prediabetes and diabetes, get the support they need to make small changes for big rewards, and learn about additional resources for diabetes. The entire program is 6 weeks long, with once a week classes, from 1:30pm – 4:00 pm. Classes begin on Thursday, May 31st at the Elizabeth Library’s Community Meeting room, located at 651 Beverly Street. Space is limited and priority will be given to those affected by prediabetes or diabetes and their family members. If interested in signing up, contact Meredith Koob at (303) 260-9346.
