Castle Rock made a mile high move on its regional park, naming a general contractor for the last phase of design.
Town council on Feb. 19 hired Turner Construction, responsible for Sports Authority Field at Mile High, from among nine applicants who submitted written proposals.
Councilmembers in 2012 approved a budget of $10 million for the 225-acre Philip S. Miller Park in hopes of finding a private partner to help build the park. The park is expected to cost as much as $30 million for the amenities outlined in the town’s master plan, according to the town of Castle Rock.
Among the amenities is a 50,000-square-foot fieldhouse that is expected to cost $9 million. The fieldhouse is designed with indoor synthetic turfs, a play adventure area and swimming pools. Councilmembers readied for 2013 construction of the fieldhouse in late 2012 by issuing $8.9 million in certificates of participation.
Turner Construction will help with final design of the park and fieldhouse with pre-construction services that include constructability reviews, price estimates, identifying efficient engineering opportunities and risk mitigation.
The company was selected for the preconstruction phase with a winning bid of $44,700. Bids ran as high as $68,317, according to the staff report from Jeff Smullen, superintendent of park planning and construction.
The Philip S. Miller Park project requires a second bid at the construction phase to agree on a guaranteed maximum price. The first look at that bid is expected by April, Smullen said.
Other projects on Turner Construction’s resume are the CU Folsom Field expansion, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Centennial Center Park, Erie Community Park, Glendale Infinity Park South and the Glendale Sports Center.
“If this passes we expect whatever project we see there to surpass whatever is in Centennial or Aurora,” said Mayor Paul Donahue.
