Former teacher charged with sex assault on student

Police say victim was a 17-year-old girl

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested a former Mountain Vista High School teacher accused of sexually assaulting a female student.

The arrest of Frank Lavoie, 32, of Highlands Ranch, stemmed from an investigation that started in February 2011; the incident occurred in 2009 with a 17-year-old girl.

Detectives have filed a case with the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office against Lavoie on a charge of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

A warrant for Lavoie was signed on July 1 and he was taken into custody without incident. Lavoie is being held on a $50,000 bond.

Detectives are asking anyone who has information about additional victims, or any inappropriate conduct by Lavoie, to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Dave Weaver 303-660-7537.

The investigation is ongoing.
