The Douglas County Coroner’s Office scored a coup, welcoming Dan Anderson from the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as a guest speaker for the ongoing series, A Night with the Coroner.
Coroner Lora Thomas has been hosting evenings with the coroner’s office since 2012, with educational presentations on the work performed by the office’s death investigators.
Her next presentation in the series will include a special guest who demonstrates that work varies little among death investigations nationwide.
Thomas will host The Truth Uncovered: A Night with the Coroner, with a presentation from Anderson on investigations that include the death of Michael Jackson.
Anderson has family in Colorado and is looking forward to the chance to give his family a glimpse of what he does. His presentation focuses on what the Los Angeles County coroner is doing with case studies and on some of the more recent celebrity deaths.
His office has handled investigations of the deaths of singer Whitney Houston; actor Brittany Murphy and her husband, Simon Monjack, who died at the same residence within six months of her death; Casey Johnson, daughter of the owner of the New York Jets; and actor Corey Haim.
A Night with the Coroner features images from death investigations, with insight into the job of the coroner. The images shared are not for the faint of heart and parental discretion is advised for those opting to bring their children to the event, Thomas said.
Anderson will have limited images available during his presentation. He is prohibited from sharing images of the Michael Jackson investigation because the photos are “under lock and key,” Thomas said.
He is free, however, to discuss the details of those cases solved by his testimony, she said.
“His presentation is going to demonstrate that the kind of investigation that happens in L.A. is the exactly the kind of investigation that happens here in Douglas County,” Thomas said. “Death investigators across the country do the same work, it doesn’t matter if you’re in Los Angeles or Castle Rock.”
