Two Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies were transported to the hospital after a crash at State Highway 83 and Russellville Road.

The patrol vehicle collided with a Toyota Prius and ended up in a ditch around 2 p.m. June 14, causing a closure of the road just a few miles north of the State Highway 83 barricade that was preventing motorists from traveling south of Powers Road because of the Black Forest Fire.

It took responders from the Franktown Fire Protection District 10-15 minutes to extricate a female patrol sergeant, who was riding in the passenger seat. The sergeant who was driving was taken away on a stretcher minutes earlier. Both suffered minor injuries and have since been released from the hospital. They are expected to return to work next week, said DCSO public information officer Ron Hanavan.

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the accident.
