Castle Rock young philanthropists host cycling event for crisis center
The Castle Rock-based Young Citizens of Philanthropy will host its second Cycle Against Violence bike ride to benefit the Women’s Crisis & Family Outreach Center, with added routes to appeal to riders of all levels.
The ride is the young philanthropists’ only fundraiser, geared to help victims of domestic violence, said Jason Golden, Young Citizens of Philanthropy.
Golden, with MW Golden Constructors, looks forward to the ride’s second year.
The 2013 ride was expanded to include three loops for riders of all levels.
Participants can choose from the original 50-mile loop, which takes cyclists from Castle Rock to Palmer Lake and back; the 30-mile loop, which makes a round trip between Castle Rock and Larkspur; or the family-friendly 4.5-mile loop, which goes from the starting point in Plum Creek to downtown Castle Rock and back.
“Our personal goal is to get 150 riders to participate,” Golden said. “One component we do have is that you don’t have to participate in the event to support the cause. There is the option on our website so you can donate any amount that works for your budget. With that option last year we were able to raise a significant amount of money.”
The Cycle Against Violence fundraiser begins at 8:45 a.m., May 18 at DC Oakes High School, 961 S. Plum Creek Blvd. in Castle Rock. Registration begins at 6:45 a.m.
Pre-registration for the event is available online at http://cycleagainstviolence.com/. The entry fee for a single rider is $30; for a family of two to four people, $35; additional family members on a family ride, $5; for a team of five, $120.
