Get out your derby hats for the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce banquet, featuring a day at the races.

The chamber celebrates this year’s award winners with a Kentucky Derby-themed banquet at 6 p.m. April 25 at the Denver Marriott South at Park Meadows. Attendees are encouraged to dress the part, with over-the-top hats, silks and appropriate Derby attire for a night of networking, dining, auctions and the annual award ceremony banquet.

The award ceremony will honor the recipients of the chamber’s business person, citizen and the Ping Lee Jung Volunteer of the Year awards.

The nominees for the business person of the year are Wes King, president of FirstBank of Douglas County; John Manka, owner of 1 Stop Tire & Auto; and Rick Stucy, owner of The Stucy Company.

The Business Person of the Year award recognizes a business owner or manager who has competitively positioned his or her business in the marketplace to demonstrate strong financial performance in their industry and successfully managed the growth of their company. Business people who have used innovative or creative business methods in times of adversity, with a commitment to the Castle Rock community, rise to the top of the nominee list.

The business person award is the chamber’s top award, said Wendy Krzeczowski, event manager.

The nominees for the citizen of the year award are Manka; Suzanne Greene, executive director of the Douglas/Elbert Task Force; Douglas County Sheriff Dave Weaver; and John Medved, owner of Medved Autoplex.

The Citizen of the Year award is given to an individual based on his or her years of volunteer activity within the community. This person demonstrates a dedication and loyalty to the Castle Rock area with a commitment to service.

The nominees for the Ping Lee Jung Volunteer of the Year award are Lisa Frizell, Douglas County deputy assessor; Mike McNairy, owner of H & M Transmission & Automotive; and Mike Tafoya, president/CEO of Estrada Strategies — DTC.

The Ping Lee Jung award recognizes a chamber member who has demonstrated support for the mission of the chamber by giving time and talent in leadership, according to the chamber

The award winners will be announced at the banquet. Banquet tickets are $59 per person; $69 per person if purchased after April 12. Reserve tickets at www.castlerock.org or call the chamber at 303-688-4597.
