Case still open in Castle Rock death

The cause of death of a 61-year-old Aurora man found July 2 near a hiking trail below Castle Rock in Rock Park still isn’t known, Douglas County Coroner Lora Thomas said July 9.

Thomas said she isn’t “sure how the gentleman came to be where he was found,” but she’s “not considering homicide as one of the manners of death in this case.”

She said she is waiting for toxicology test results, which could take four to six weeks to receive, and so the final autopsy report won’t be available until then.

No information was available from Castle Rock Police about the incident.
