11 Minutes Theatre: JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS in Arvada for 2 nights!

Posted by

"The Blue Junket of the Crooked Kind" is the traveling troupe that will perform, and I happened to find these talented women and men traveling around the world. They wanted to take the music of Jacques Brel and put together a night of entertainment for you. Each performer has lived a rich life, and although they perform many of their songs as themselves, they have also created extra characters in order to better serve the music and the characters they have developed. They let me in to work with them, and we thought it was appropriate to reference the paintings of Toulouse Lautrec as our visual inspiration because he painted the gritty, seedy, middle class, humid, painful, funny, and theatrical aspects of Parisian life during the latter half of the 19th century. In working with the music, these talented travelers took apart the piece by Shuman and Blau, rearranged the songs, threw some out, and created their own story. Our talented musicians are Colorado grown, and agreed to join this troupe and 11 Minutes for their tour.

Jacques Brel was a world-renowned singer, originally from Belgium, who found most of his success in Paris. In 1968, song-writer, Mort Shuman, and playwright, Eric Blau, created Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, in order to pay homage to his music, and perhaps to reference his sudden retirement from stage at such a young age. This musical review became one of the longest-running off-Broadway shows in history.
